What is alchemy (or alchemists)? (If you don't know, Google it.)
Santiago (the boy) endeavors to travel from Spain to Egypt. This is evidently before trains, cars, or planes. What is the significance of this journey?
Often, the events in The Alchemist will repeat and offer new interpretations of old experiences. So, although the boy hates the tea at first, he likes it later. Or he realizes that Northern Africa (Morocco) is not a "strange" place, but a "new" one. What do you think these simple shifts in perspective are trying to tell the reader?
Why does the novel open w/ a myth (in the Prologue)?
The king of Salem says that the world's greatest lie is that at a certain point in our lives we lose control of what's happening to us and we're controlled by fate (20). Do you agree or disagree? Explain.
What questions do you have so far?
I think the simple shifts the author is creating opens up the readers mind, in the sense that it's the little things in life that can have a greater impact or meaning in our future. We shouldn't be so close-minded in life, or afraid to be different/try different things. I completely agree that the world's greatest lie is that at a certain point in our lives we lose control of what's happening to us and we're controlled by fate. It really is up to us at the end of the day to choose what route we want to take. No one is telling us how to live our lives except for ourselves. There is no one else to blame for the actions that we take, as easy as it is to cause damage when making a decision, it's hard to realize we're the ones who need judgment. Who's there to point fingers when the outcome of our own decisions don't follow through as we had planned, no one. As a young adult learning how to live in this confusing world, one thing that has helped me live day by day is: Start thinking before acting. So many countless times I wish I could take back and redo. However we can't go back in time, therefore I have to really think about everything I do, and the effects it all has on my life and my future. It's up to me to get to where I want to go, and I'll get there without a doubt, as long as I believe in myself.
ReplyDelete-Alchemy is the philosophy and practice of liberating a physical from its fixed physical properties.
ReplyDelete-The significance of this journey is too living hes current reality until you reach the ultimate treasure.
-I think the simple shits the author is trying to catch the reader's attention by proving us we should follow our call adventure.even through the situation might seem difficult we should always test our beliefs and decides to leave our current reality. Life is a big journey we all have the right to draw our dreams .We have to pick if we want to be a victim or an adventure.
-I do Agree with that statement because the true gift lies in the present moment if we focus our attention in the present moment we would able to see the true beauty that around us. like the books said if you not in the moment you probably going to die in the dessert. we all should be open our heart and follow our bless.
-Is alchemy really relevant now days?
- What has happened in the book that seems magical?
-How did the desert help him on his journey?
-Alchemy is a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation or combination.
ReplyDelete-The significance of this journey to Egypt is to find the treasure someone told him about.
-I think these simple shifts in perspective are trying to tell the reader it’s not bad to explore a new adventure/ place and to also do what you are called to do. Even though we try lots of ways to try and get out of the call we are supposed to do we end up thinking about it and giving it a try. In life we don’t want to do the stuff we are called to do in our life but then when you decide to do it it can have a positive impact on our life.
-I agree with this statement because in life we make lots of decisions that will leave a good or bad impact on our lives. But at some point in life we lose control of what is happening in our lives and then that’s when life is now controlled on fate. When we have a dream we really want in life fate will do anything to make that dream come true.
